Our Story
In 1924, Jesus Marion Ortega came into the world in Vernal, Utah, born to Cleotilde and Pablo Ortega. His educational journey extended until about the 8th grade before he embarked on a different path, one that led him to serve in World War II. Post-war, his life took a significant turn when he crossed paths with Ruby, whom he married in 1947. Together, they relocated to Ruby's hometown of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and over time, welcomed eight children into their lives, including Eloy C. Ortega.
Eloy faced significant health challenges from birth. These obstacles triggered a move to Socorro, New Mexico, where Carrie Tingley Hospital provided the specialized care, he required. Despite these early trials, Marion found his calling in the propane industry, initially working as a trench digger for Suburban Propane before climbing the ranks to become a manager.
In 1973, after years of dedication and hard work, Marion and Ruby took a leap of faith, founding their own propane company, Ortega’s Propane Service Inc. Their venture was a family affair, with Eloy being the first to join them in running the business. In 1979, Eloy married Sadie, and together they worked at Ortega’s Propane Service. They welcomed their first son, Eloy J. Ortega, in 1983, and later, Estevan Ortega in 1988.
The Ortega family's commitment to their business became a cherished tradition, with each member contributing their efforts. Despite his disabilities, Eloy C. Ortega exemplified resilience and determination, dedicating himself to the local community as well as the success of the company.
In 2022, Eloy C. Ortega passed away, leaving behind a profound legacy. His vision and hard work paved the way for his wife, sons, and grandchildren to continue his entrepreneurial spirit, ensuring that Ortega’s Propane Service Inc. remained a beacon of success and familial unity for years to come. After 50 years, the Ortega family remains committed to serving the local community with all propane needs.
